Yogyakarta, September 2, 2026—Five Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) students, forming the Student Creativity Program for Social Sciences and Humanities Research (PKM-RSH) team, are developing a sociotechnical approach to address the threat of tidal flooding in the Muara Baru area. Two of the students are from the UGM Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL): Muhammad Aditya Nugroho Sofyan and Muhammad Aditya Ibnu Salim. Gorontalo, August 6, 2026—Three students from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) carried out a community service initiative in the southern coastal area of ​​Gorontalo. Yogyakarta, August 5, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at UGM held the first day of the PIONIR Society 2026 event, themed “Weaving the Direction of Youth Initiatives,” on Wednesday (August 5). The agenda began with a guidance session, followed by an opening ceremony in the West Concourse area. A total of 629 new students from the Class of 2026 participated in this orientation program.

Yogyakarta, 8 June 2026─The Creative Hub of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Gadjah Mada (FISIPOL UGM), together with partners from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and the University of Leipzig, conducted an observation and mini-fieldwork study on waste management in RW 05, Terban Village, Gondokusuman, Yogyakarta City.

Indonesia faces challenges in waste management, with a national waste production volume of 23.9 million metric tons per year, 65.45% of which remains poorly managed due to low community participation. The Terban area, located not far from the UGM campus, faces similar issues and was therefore selected as a living laboratory for circular economic transformation through the development of the Gebrak Sampah Ecosystem. read more

Yogyakarta, May 7, 2026—The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM demonstrated its contribution to strengthening community capacity to face disaster risks by participating in the National Disaster Exhibition, part of the 9th Annual Scientific Meeting (PIT) on Disaster. Yogyakarta, April 26, 2026─The deployment of Fisipol Mengajar volunteers to Central Aceh Regency and the Bala Gadjah Mada Team to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) from January to February 2026 brought urgency to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to hold an event titled “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Documentation in Aceh and IKN” on Friday (April 24). This event served as a collaborative space that bridged students’ empirical experiences with academic reflection and policy discourse. Fisipol Mengajar focused on community support in disaster-affected areas in Aceh, with an emphasis on post-disaster educational recovery and strengthening social interaction. Meanwhile, Bala Gadjah Mada initiated an expedition to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) area focusing on environmental management issues, particularly waste management in the development buffer zone. read more
