Yogyakarta, 19th May, 2026—In a significant step toward environmental sustainability, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has transformed the parking lot located on the west side of the Bank Mandiri FISIPOL UGM branch into a vibrant green space. This initiative marks a crucial step in the faculty’s commitment to increasing green open spaces within the academic environment.

The transformation of the area is clearly visible, as what was once a crowded parking lot has become a clean expanse of lush green grass and newly planted trees. This change not only beautifies the campus but also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) focused on environmental sustainability and climate action. read more

Yogyakarta, May 12, 2026─SOREC FISIPOL UGM initiated the “Papuan Solidarity Space for Land Sovereignty, Food, and Life,” which included a screening and discussion of the film “Pig Feast.” Held on Tuesday (May 12) in the 4th Floor Auditorium of FISIPOL UGM, the event was well-attended by members of the FISIPOL UGM academic community and the general public.

The event began with a screening of “Pig Feast,” directed by Dandhy Dwi Laksono and the entire documentary team. The discussion continued with a discussion session moderated by Sana Ulaili (Forum Cik Di Tiro) and invited three moderators: Bagus Sulistiono (Center for Capacity Development and Cooperation (PPKK) FISIPOL UGM), Made Supriatma (CRRS, Knowledge Council YLBHI), and Herni Saraswati (Women Farmers). The discussion focused on the issues raised in the film, which were then addressed by the Papuan Student Alliance (AMP) and the Papuan Indigenous Peoples of the Meepago, Lapago, and Animha Regions. read more

Yogyakarta, April 26, 2026─The deployment of Fisipol Mengajar volunteers to Central Aceh Regency and the Bala Gadjah Mada Team to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) from January to February 2026 brought urgency to the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) to hold an event titled “Exhibition and Dissemination of FISIPOL Documentation in Aceh and IKN” on Friday (April 24). This event served as a collaborative space that bridged students’ empirical experiences with academic reflection and policy discourse. Fisipol Mengajar focused on community support in disaster-affected areas in Aceh, with an emphasis on post-disaster educational recovery and strengthening social interaction. Meanwhile, Bala Gadjah Mada initiated an expedition to the Indonesian Capital City (IKN) area focusing on environmental management issues, particularly waste management in the development buffer zone. read more

Yogyakarta, April 24, 2026 – The West Corridor (Selasar Barat) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) UGM has been transformed into a deeply meaningful space of reflection since Friday (24/4). This exhibition presents the track records of two community service programs, namely FISIPOL Mengajar and Bala Gadjah Mada Setrajana.

Despite being in geographically distant locations, these two programs are bound by the same dedication to fundamental issues: education and ecological sustainability. Yogyakarta, March 8—The Bala Gadjah Mada Team of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), restored the Miniature Tropical Rainforest of the National Capital City (IKN) by planting 100 endemic Kalimantan trees with students from SMPN 27 Penajam Paser Utara on February 8, 2026.

The land, which is now the IKN’s Central Government Core Area (KIPP), was previously an industrial forest concession area with eucalyptus monocultures. This plant has a short cutting cycle—six to seven years—and is designated for the paper industry. read more

Yogyakarta, March 5, 2026─The Gadjah Mada Youth Team from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) completed a 14-day expedition, social project, and research program in the Indonesian Capital City (IKN). The team consisted of 12 students from the Faculty Student Activity Unit (UKMF) of the Nature and Environment Lovers Group (KPALH) of the FISIPOL Secretariat.

The activity, titled the Environmental Conservation Mission, ran from January 26 to February 10, 2026, and focused on mapping environmental governance, specifically waste management, while also providing concrete contributions to the communities in the buffer zone of the IKN, including Bumi Harapan Village, Pemaluan Subdistrict, and SMPN 27 Penajam Paser Utara (PPU). read more
